Spotting, KCH-KUL-PEN, 10 February 2007

As the title says, spotting on the journey home.

9M-AEB Taxiing at KCH. The only shot I took there.

Next, shots after landing at KLIA. Damn I'm starting to love the open-air-ness of the LCCT. Seen here is AirAsia's (AK) latest Airbus A320, 9M-AFP, sporting a great livery to celebrate Malaysia's 50th year of independence as well as Visit Malaysia Year 2007:

And the fun really begins after checking in for the flight to Penang. From the departure hall, another of AK's A320s, 9M-AFH, ready to go:

Did I mention the departure hall has a nice view of planes coming in to land? Lion Air's 737-400, PK-LIW:

Sri Lankan's A340-300 4R-ADB:

Malaysia Airlines (MH) 737-400 9M-MMU:

Another MH 734, 9M-MME:

Vietnam Airlines A321. Basically a stretched A320. This is VN-A348:

China Airlines sent in an Airbus A300-600R, B-18503:

Garuda Indonesia's 734. Lotsa 734s visiting KUL it seems. PK-GWO:

Singapore Airlines 777-200. 9V-SRA:

One of AK's 737-300s came taxiing in, making for a good, detailed shot. This is 9M-AAH:

Finally, something else from MH, other than 734s. This is Airbus A330-200 9M-MKW:

Another one of AK's A320s, 9M-AFE passing by and making for a good shot once again:

MH 734, 9M-MQK:

Nose closeup shot of Alpha-Alpha-Foxtrot, one of AK's 733s:

Time to fly home soon enough. All those airplanes in one hour...phew! Seen here is the famous Penang Bridge as we approached Penang International:

Someone's private jet parked close to the terminal. A Raytheon 390 Premier I, rego N390RC...which meant it was an American plane?

Finally, a surprise at PEN. China Airlines' A340-300 B-18801:
With all that action, I guess flying with AK does have its perks after all!

Belated Postcards from Sabah

Got back from Sabah only to face a tiring and hectic week. But now that I'm back in Taiping, it's time to blog. So here goes, photos from the Sabah trip. First, the personal ones:

Managed to get into the cockpit after the plane landed, and for the first time the Captain actually allowed us to take a seat! Had a nice, short chat with the expat Aussie FO too. Don't give up on your dream, he says. Encouraging words indeed. Anyways, seen here is Suren chatting with the very experienced Capt Mahmud.

Suren again, saying cheese to the camera.

Yours truly, in the place he's always wanted to be in. And almost got it.

Quay, looking weird from this angle:
Our room at Summer Lodge, KK. RM18 a night. Cheap and good...cos there's a/c and hot showers!

The Unimas bunch for the Borneo Cup this year
With Mr Sabu at the marble hallways of UMS's Dewan Canselor. Too bad Veenna wasn't in the pic though.
Horses on the way to the airport. Don't look at me. Veenna wanted me to take this!

Kuching seen on the flight home. You can see Saberkas and other landmarks...

Orbis' DC-10-10 was still at KCH when I arrived. This was the second DC-10 to be built according to some folks at malaysianwings.com. What an honor to see such an old bird face to face!

Now for the not-so-personal sights during my trip. Sights I thought would look nice with the border.

And the Borneo Cup? Well we got into the semis and that was good enough for me. I have lotsa stuff to say about the whole tournament though. Stuff I'm not gonna post here.

Coming up next: Spotting on the way home to Taiping. Plane-o-phobics, beware...
