The Truth?

So this is how the west (well, more like the south actually) views us, eh?

While Malaysia Fiddles, Its Opportunities Are Running Dry

But wait a minute, all that can't be right. The guy who wrote this must be part of the global Jewish conspiracy! That's right...our leaders are probably gonna dismiss this as yet another narrow-minded/Jewish/imperialist/(insert derogatory comment) ploy to destroy our country. Or something like that.

Kudos to the Australian journalist for hammering home the hard truth. My question is, can our leaders handle the truth?

I have this weird notion that our political leaders view our country's economy as a pot of gold sitting in the middle of a minefield. They all seem to have this nervous energy about them all the time, like they're jumping about the field trying to grab as much as they can and get out. Nobody is actually interested in clearing the mines.

Backman's criticism was a clear scenario of what's happening in Malaysia. That's the truth.
To clear the mines as dhanen said is not easy, and finger pointing as typical Malaysian culture would not be useful and we will be labelled as Malaysia Bodoh. But have we ever asked ourselve what have we done to clear those mines? Even if we're not political leaders or big corporate figure, but spending some time doing small things like helping our poor friends or participate in NGO activities would be a good start. Apart from playing World of Warcraft, the future of Malaysia is for us to behold....and that's the PAINFUL TRUTH.

You're missing the point, keeman. True, you can spend time doing small things (in your own words) like participating in charities, NGOs, etc but that's doesn't stop our leaders from blowing the country's cash on things like sending a man into space does it?

You want to clear the mines? Do it through the ballot box. Malaysia Bodoh is what happens when folks keep voting in the same people time and time again during election time but bitch afterwards when they screw the country left, right up and down.

Whether or not I play WOW is besides the point. What matters is I care. Most people my age sadly don't, and that is a painful truth too.

First of all, i'm not blaming you Wei Yang or targeting you. Making a general statement for those who don't bother. In fact, you're doing great by discussing this issue. And i know you care, if not you won't be making this post, right?

Sorry, if i sound like i'm against people playing games. I do too. But sometimes, even if we vote for other faces, the same thing will happen. DAP or MCA? PAS or UMNO? Same thing. BN-ruled government want to send a student to space, PAS-ruled government (where i came from) want to turn Kelantan into Mecca, injecting money on decorating the town with Islamic structures but people in the state (especially Muslims) are hungering for better jobs, public amenities.

I mean politic is like that. Just like how Bush spend millions on war on Iraq when more and more Americans are jobless and have to pay higher income tax. So, since we can't change them....the closest/or perhaps the best thing we could do is by changing ourself. Not our personalities, hobbies, or anything, but just a little attitude of willing enough to contribute to our nation.

And i have no doubt you would do so. Take care.
